Julius Jeongwon Kim

Julius-Jeongwon Kim is recognized as one of the best Korean pianists of his generation; his performances have received praise for stable technique and delicate sound color.

Julius-Jeongwon Kim finished his studies at the Vienna University of Music and Performing Arts as the top student and got admitted to the Conservatoire national superieur de musique de Paris ("Cycle de perfectionnement"), He played as a soloist at the 200th anniversary in commemoration of Mozart's death at the Wiener Konzerthaus, interpreted the complete works of Mussorgsky at a Russian music festival, and was invited to a concert of the Polish Chopin Society.

He has appeared with numerous renowned orchestras and conductors, including the Vienna Symphony under Vladimir Fedoseyev, the Czech Philharmonic (conducted by Dmitri Shostakovitch's son Maxim), the Bruckner Symphony under Dennis Russell Davies, the NDR Symphony Hannover, the Nuernberg Symphony, the Budapest National Philharmonic, the Prague Radio Symphony, the Toronto Symphony, the Danish National Radio Symphony, the Janacek Philharmonic in the Czech Republic, the Jena Philharmonic and the National Orchestra of Kassel (both in Germany), the North Czech National Philharmonic, the Lutoslavski Philharmonic in Poland, the State Symphony of Athen, the National Philharmonic of Mexico and the Nagoya National Philharmonic in Japan. Performances at music festivals include the International Chopin Festival in Warsaw or the International Beethoven Festival organized by the Penderecki Foundation in Krakow, which featured appearances with world-famous musicians such as Christoph Eschenbach, Julian Rachlin, Arto Noras, and Rudolf Buchbinder; the Teplice Beethoven Festval, the International Piano Echos Festival in Italy, and the International Music Festival in Ceski Krumlov, with Vaclav Klaus (president of the Czech Republic) as a listener.

His debut in Korea took place in 2001 at the Seoul LG Arts Center. The tickets for this concert were sold out immediately, which set a new record in Korea. He performed with the KBS Symphony Orchestra, the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Bucheon Philharmonic Orchestra. An avid chamber musician, he played all the Beethoven Double Concertos for piano and cello with the Korean cellist Yoohong Lee. The year 2003 marked the beginning of an ensemble career with the M.I.K. Piano Quartet with violinist Soovin Kim, cellist Young-Hoon Song, and violist Sang-Jin Kim. The quartet has been already recognized in the national and international music world. Other musical highlights include performances with cellist Mischa Maisky (in 2004), violinist Cheeyun, and cellist Young-Chang Cho. In 2006 a successful ensemble performance, named "Julius and Friends" received favorable reviews; other musical encounters comprise artistic collaboration. Additionally, he was able to show a very different side of his personality in the movie For Horowitz where he performed Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No.2.

Pianist Julius-Jeongwon Kim currently lives in Vienna, which serves as his base for both concert activities around the world and recordings of solo and chamber music.
