KBS Symphony Orchestra
 

The KBS Symphony Orchestra, the flagship orchestra of Korea's national public service broadcaster KBS(Korean Broadcasting System), has played a leading role in Korean musical life since its founding in 1956. The Orchestra with its 96 musicians give more than 80 concerts(the subscription series, special concerts, overseas concerts, local cities' concerts, etc.) throughout the year. The Orchestra also holds special concerts for broadcast on KBS Radio and TV.


Asserting a strong international presence, the Orchestra has toured in the major cities of the United States(1979, 1996), Southeast Asia(1984), Japan(1985,1991,1992,1994,2002,2007), China(2002) and Germany(2005). These appearances have brought great critical acclaim and honors.


The musicians of the Stats Symphony Orchestra of Democraic People's Republic of Korea and the KBS Symphony Orchestra of Republic of Korea staged a historic joint concert comprising four performances, the first in 50 years of division of the two Koreas, on August 20th through 22nd, 2000, in Seoul. This inter-Korean joint event was designed to commermorate the 55th anniversary of National Liberation and celebrate the June 14th declaration by the heads of the two Koreas, promoting a mood of peaceful co-existence over the Korean Peninsula.
